June and July, 2023

We spy some amazing Mothers…

Some of our leading loving Mothers have been working with the Charity Organization “Eyes of a Mother” on a continuous Diaper Drive initiative. The organization partnered with Parks Chapel AME and provides essential baby items and other related goods to mothers and babies across Sylmar, Pacoima, and San Fernando. Recently, 2500 diapers were packaged into packs of 22-25 and blessed within the walls of Parks Chapel for the community!

The effort will continue and diaper donations are always welcomed (sizes 2, 3, and 4 are in high demand). Please see Sisters Myrna, Paula, Caroline for more details and to contribute or help assemble ongoing packs. More packages will be distributed at our Community Event on July 29th. 

Upcoming Opportunities:Thursday, July 20, 2023

The City of Los Angeles has established a LA City Reparations Commission. Researchers will be conducting a survey surrounding experiences of current and former Black residents of the City of Los Angeles. The Social Action ministry is having an “All Hands on Deck” meeting Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 6:30pm. Please spread the word and encourage participation, as this Survey Project will be historic! Members of the Los Angeles Civil, Human Rights, and Equity Department will present additional details and insight during our Zoom meeting July 20th. Flyers with scannable QR code for the survey link will be made available at our Community Event on July 29th.

Parks Chapel AME is hosting a Backpack Giveaway and Community Resource Fair. Volunteers are still needed. We anticipate serving 1,000 families this year! This is a momentous time for everyone to be a part of a growing and expanded community now and for years to come!
